Beginning to Flower

Our research proposal needs only a few paragraphs of explanation for the annotated bibliography (feedback from Mike) and we will be set to go. Our first research proposal draft was accepted with a "good work" comment to boot. As Vickie said "We Rock!" Spring break is next week so it may be a couple of weeks before we get the final approval. I am feeling very confident and "on track" about this project. :-)

Talking and Researching

Grr. Just lost a post. I need to get better with this interface...

Anyway...Had a nice chat with my principal about the project and she was very supportive. She even said we were visionary!!

I also had a moment to do some preliminary searching on Google Scholar today. Came up with 2 great articles...at least they look great so far! Still have to really read them.
The first one is Applying computer multimedia storytelling Website in foreign language learning.

The second is Constructing Multimedia: Benefits of Student-Generated Multimedia on Learning

So, maybe I will start reading them soon...
I wonder if we will get feedback on our proposal by tomorrow's Tapped In? I wonder what part of the proposal needs work?

Hee Hee!

Just Journaling....

Well, I did a lot of iMet stuff today...Met in Tapped In with Erica and Angela. We have a good start on our lesson plan, and we need to hear from John if it is acceptable. I said I would do research and I spent a few hours trolling for articles about learning/math/money/multimedia/2nd grade/etc etc.

Found a few good ones and I thought I would do a slick trick and save the HTML archive as a PDF into my awaiting folder. Too bad, so sad, this trick only saves page 1. So there are about 10 articles I need to go back and get and read. But at least I know exactly what to work for and I won't have to wade through all those abstracts again.

One that looked promising was : Using Hypermedia to Improve the Mathematics Problem-Solving Skills of Students with Learning Disabilities by Beatrice C.Babbitt and Susan Peterson Miller.

I found one article (at least) that will be good for our AR project. It was about teaching literacy with video: The Social Studies Video Project: A Holistic Approach for Teaching Linguistically and
Culturally Diverse Students.
When I am able to go back I will read it and link it here.

I also did the web evaluation project. I have been looking at the hate site all week...There have been some disturbing hate crimes and vandalism here in Davis this last week. Looking at what is behind the MLK.org site is very enlightening.

Well, I have a regatta to go to in the morning. I am driving 3 rowers, including my daughter, to the Port of Sacramento. We leave at dawn.

Proposal Submitted - March 5, 2005

I just gathered together all of the documents for the iMet research contract and emailed them off into cyberspace. Whew! The next step is to await a response. I am anxious to proceed and believe that what we are doing will have VERY beneficial effects on students. I should add that I have spoken with both the principal at the school where I plan to pick students. He gave me the go ahead as long as there is a school electronic permission on file. I spoke with the district technology director and he gave me the same answer.

Action on the Research Front

Well, I think things are moving along.

I talked to Lisa Arvin, our ESL teacher at Valley Oak and told her our idea for the reasearch project. She was very supportive. I am excited because we have such a diverse population at my school. We have kids from Nepal, Japan, Korea, Phillipines, Russia, Chile, Sweden, and Mexico. I probably missed someone!

I also talked to my princepal and e-mailed her the link to Mary's website that has the proposal. The link to the proposal is here.
